Today we’re “officially” unveiling a new series on the Beds.com blog: Sleep Number Stories (our first post was actually two weeks ago by blogger Erin Loechner). The intent? To share some of the fantastic customer stories we hear every day–through our customer service department, our Facebook page and in our Sleep Number stores.
As you’ll see with these posts, there’s no one type of person who owns a Sleep Number bed. Or, reasons why they buy one. Our owners live in all different areas and cities across the country. Some have lived with back and neck pain and were seeking refuge. Others live in small apartments in major metropolitan areas and were looking for a mattress that could fit up a tight staircase. Whatever the case, you’ll hear all sorts of stories here.
Today, we’d like to kick off this series with Gregory Brown, a Sleep Number owner from Florida. Gregory is an active member of our Facebook community and is a relatively new Sleep Number bed owner. Let’s let Gregory share his story:
Sleep Number Profile
Name: Gregory Brown
Hometown: Longwood, Fla.
Occupation: Respiratory Therapist, Photographer
Age: 48 years old
Sleep Number® Setting: 35
Longest nap Greg’s taken on his Sleep Number bed: 2 hours. I never really napped until I bought the bed. I always look forward to going to bed at night.
Question: You’ve had a Sleep Number bed now for five months, and according to your Facebook post you’ve never slept better. What do you attribute that to specifically?
Proper alignment of the whole body. Pressure taken off the hips, lower back and shoulder joints. I suffered for the longest time when my hip and shoulder joints were being crunched up, resulting in tossing and turning. Also, I have a double spinal curvature (Kyphoscoliosis) which contributed to poor sleep and lack of comfort. Another main feature of the Sleep Number bed is the prevention of temperature swings. I suffered from that for a long time. I woke up many times with my neck sweating. I bought the pillow case with the special lining and that alone made a huge difference in my quality of sleep. I like to stay on the cool temperature side when it comes to sleeping.
Question: You also mentioned in your Facebook post a couple weeks back that those with spinal curvatures need to consider Sleep Number beds. Why do you say that?
Proper body alignment and taking pressure off the hip and shoulder joints. The Sleep Number bed did the greatest justice to my sleep. For the longest time I slept poorly and since I bought this bed I’m catching up on all that sleep I missed for years. I’m not tired anymore and I’m not drowsy at work. I wake up more refreshed. I don’t toss and turn much anymore and I fall asleep quicker now. It used to take me an hour to fall asleep.
Question: Why did you choose a Sleep Number bed over other mattress options?
I have been eyeing this bed for a long time. My nephew moved in with me after enrolling at the Full Sail school here in Winter Park Florida and I needed a third bedroom for a guest. So my wonderful sister finally put the notion in my head. So, I went down to Altamonte Mall and talked to a Sleep Number salesperson and showed him the X-ray of my spine. He put me on the demonstration bed and clearly showed me the horrible pressure points I felt and magically computed my Sleep Number. At that exact moment I decided to buy the bed. The cost had nothing to do with it. All I cared about was getting better sleep which the Sleep Number bed delivered without fail.
