It’s leaf-raking season which means we’re all outside preparing our homes for winter before the snow falls. We Minnesotans at Select Comfort headquarters take a sort of perverse pride in the fickle weather for which our state is famous. We welcome the changing seasons even if it means raking leaves and shoveling snow – two major lower-back stressors.
I have lower-back pain, and prior to getting my Sleep Number bed I used to see my chiropractor four or five times a year to get it straightened out. Since I got my Sleep Number Bed (a Queen 4000), I’m happy to say that the visits have decreased to one or two a year. As long as I remember to lift correctly, I’m usually okay.
Since raking leaves involves a lot of bending, my lower back will invariably tighten up this time of year. I’ve discovered that my Sleep Number bed can come to the rescue and loosen up those tight back muscles. After a day of raking leaves, I decrease my Sleep Number to 35 (from my normal 40), fall asleep laying on my back, and use three or four pillows beneath my head. The support of the air chamber in my lower back that results from my hips sinking further into the bed really relaxes the tight muscles. More often than not, I wake the next day feeling much better than when I went to bed!
I usually adjust my remote a couple times a year as the seasons change. But being able to adjust the firmness after a long day working outside is one of the many great benefits of a Select Comfort mattress. Bring on the snow shoveling!
