You can change your Sleep Number every night. True.
The beauty of the bed is that if you pull a muscle in the afternoon you could be sleeping in a bed that will help you recover that evening. Your sleep partner will not even notice a difference. For tips on how to find your sleep number, visit SleepNumber.com.
The bed will deflate if you unplug the pump. False.
The pump is designed to inflate or deflate with the touch of a button and full power only.
The Sleep Number pump unit is not self-adjusting. True.
The unit will not turn on and off at anytime unless you press a button.
If my wired Sleep Number remote flickers, then my pump is defective. False.
An erratic flow of electricity may be causing it to flicker. Always use a power surge protector to regulate the flow of electricity to major appliances.
I am too overweight for the Sleep Number bed. False.
Each air chamber is designed to support any sleeper who weighs 500 lbs. or less, and the foundation will support both sleepers’ combined weight of 1000 lbs. or less.
The Sleep Number is a measurement of pressure, not volume. True.
Pressure is affected by temperature and weight as well as volume. Heat will cause air to expand and pressure to rise. Placing more weight on the outside of any container will cause the pressure inside it to rise. And adding more air to the container will also cause the pressure to rise.
If any part of my bed is defective, I will have to wait forever to receive the replacement parts. False.
We strive to resolve any warranty issues that come up the very first time you contact us so you wait days, not weeks. Check out our Select Comfort Customer Care section on SleepNumber.com.

You state that you strive to resolve warranty issues the very first time we contact you but is this always the case??? We contacted your company 3 weeks ago regarding an issue with the pump relating to the air chamber on the right side of our King SN bed and have since been given the run around to the point that my wife sleeps on our guest bed so that she can sleep comfortably since it is her side of the bed that is affected. We did what we were told to do and promised that a new pump would be sent out the next day. Now 3 weeks later, we received a return label for the defective pump but nothing else. Finally after some searching, I found that we were finally being sent a refurbished pump for our 3 year old bed. (a fact I am deeply disturbed about as it should be a new one considering the age of the bed) Personally if your company prides itself on resolving warranty issues the first time, our issue should have been resolved on day one not on day 27 !!!
Steve,
I work in Select Comfort’s customer service department. Thank you for reaching out to us and sharing your input.
For the air loss issue you reported, we do require some troubleshooting from the customer. Please understand that our requirement that you troubleshoot the issue is not an attempt to stall you or give you “busy work”. The troubleshooting process has been streamlined to make it as simple and painless as possible, and the answers you provide to the various questions allow us to zero in on a solution so we’re 100% sure of the source of the airloss when we ship your replacement part.
The terms of our warrnaty indicate that we reserve the right to use refurbished components for warranty replacements. I feel that I should clarify that in this case “refurbished” does not mean “repaired”. We get our refurb parts from refused and returned shipments. All refurb parts are pre-tested and and certified 100% funcitional before being shipped out to customers. Select Comfort never reuses any fabric or foam components.
I have a sleep number bed that came in a used RV we purchased. We also have a Select Comfort bed in our home. We like them both very much and my wife considers having “her select comfort bed” with her while on vacations to be the only way to travel!
The one in our RV has a simple wired single remote and two hoses. Last week we were packing for an excursion and while making the bed I noticed the controller would not respond. No lights/no LEDs. I took the pump to a local electronics repair shop. The tech checked circuits and found that an electronic component in the remote is the problem.
Where might I source a replacement remote? It just plugs in to the circuit board inside the case. I priced a replacement pump and found that(I recall customer service quoted me $500.00+) to be prohibitively costly. I found one on Ebay, brand new in the box for ~200.00.
I may just replace it with some Vinyl hose, manual air valves and a hand pump from the hardware store for about $30.00. (What can I say, I’m crafty and I like a good night’s sleep. I will succeed where others have failed. ZZZZ) My solution may not be as pretty and high tech as the original but I expect it will be sturdy, functional and simple as well as inexpensive.
Any help you can provide locating a remote would be greatly appreciated.
Thad— Hello, my name is Stephanie and I work for Select Comfort’s online Customer Service team. I am sorry to hear about the issue that you are having with your RV pump. Unfortunately, as the RV was a second hand purchase, there is no warranty on it. However, there are other options available to you. One option is to replace the pump with the equivalent of what you have. You may also choose to get a pump that from the c2 or c3 model, which would not be as expensive. I would not recommend using a hand pump on your bed, as doing so runs the risk of over inflating and popping the air chamber. If you would like pricing on these pump units or need further assistance, please do not hesitate to call us. Our customer service number is 1-800-472-7185.
We purchased a refurbished sleep number bed a few years ago and now are having problems with air loss on the right side. I have already checked the hose connections and they seem to seat securely. What else should I be looking for?
Mike,
Thank you for your post. We’re very sorry to hear that you’re experiencing an air loss on your bed. An air loss can be traced to one of three locations, and some simple troubleshooting will determine the location of the leak. Please give us a call at Customer Service so we begin to resolve your issue by giving you instructions that are specific to your model of bed. Customer Service can be reached at 1-800-472-7185. The call center is open Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 6:00pm central time, and Saturday 8:30 to 5:00.
Best regards,
Jim Freund

I’m a 40!
We have owned our Sleep Number bed for 9+ years. We need to replace the foam inserts, because they are starting to collapse. OK – we’ve aged and gained weight! LOL Anyway, I have looked for a way to order these online and have been unsuccessful. Ours is a pretty basic model. Our inflation control is hard-wired and has no number display. I haven’t a clue what my sleep number is. So sad….
Hi Debra,
This is Sarah from Select Comfort. Thanks for posting a comment!
I recommend you give our Customer Service dept a call at 888-411-2270. If you purchased your bed through us we’ll have you on file and they can help you determine which model you have and what replacement foam will work best.
I think the fact that you can get replacement parts for your bed vs. having to buy and entirely new mattress is one of the great perks about having a Sleep Number bed. I hope you agree.
Sleep well,
Sarah Panus

We bought our Sleep Number about 10 years ago. We have even moved it to different room and have NEVER had even one issue. It is wonderful. I mean WONDERFUL. We have now bought a cottage and plan to buy another Sleep Number Bed – I hear they even do the set up now! This is one of the best investments we’ve ever made!
Sincerely,
Ruth Maegli

It seems as if all of the dual chamber beds are experiencing a failure in the center foam support between the two air chambers. Isnt there any way your company could offer a more dense piece of foam that would not fail so quickly. Ours failed with the first year or so. If definetly needs to be modified.
I just got done moving, and now both my air chambers leak BADLY. I need replacements quickly. I found 6-10 pin holes on each side seam. I attempted to patch without any success. This bad is starting to really annoy me. Now I figure I have to pay for new parts, and I haven’t had it long at all.
I love the bed, but I’m tired of losing air. This isn’t the first time. Now after moving, we can’t even get a good nights rest. They were packed well to keep them safe. Email me please. Inform me what I need to do.
Nate

We love our SN bed…we have moved it 5 times, even from the states to Puerto Rico. The only issue we have had is that the remote no longer displays and seems a bit “tired”. We think perhaps the move in winter exposed it to too much cold and perhaps that messed up the display. We have just been using it as is, but are now in need of a replacement. Is there any way I can order this online?
I have an older Sleep Number bed – 1999? and one chamber deflates. I have been through the customer service calls to troubleshoot the problem and it appears to be the pump – chamber holds air fine when plugged. But now I have no idea how to replace the pump on such an old bed.
I went ahead and used the Customer Service number I saw listed in previous posts and was assisted by a very helpful representative who was able to find my original order form 2000. I ordered a new pump for only $150.00 since I am still within the 10 year warrranty. If this works out, I will be very pleased. I know the bed was an expensive investment compared to a standard mattress purchase, but, except for the the pump issue, it has been a reliable, comfortable and convenient bed (much easier to move than a standard king).
I have a sleep number bed that is about 10 years old. Its a basic model queen bed. I have an issue with one of the air chambers. The material has seperated around the inlet hose and will not hold ANY air. Am I still under warranty? What are my options?
I have had my bed for about three years and started to have problems with the pump unit. I opened the top cover to see if a wire came off a terminal and that there was actually power at the control board. Sleep Number now says that my warranty is void and now they want to charge me $275 for a brand new pump. If I wouldn’t have removed the cover, it would have been $77. Ok, I shouldn’t have taken the cover off, but if the problem was a loose wire, they would have been more than happy to charge me $77 for two minutes work plus shipping cost etc. They won’t even evaluate the unit. If I scraped a trace off the board, ok, I’m responsible. But, just to say sorry, send us more money – That is unacceptable. My friend had one of these beds as well and it is in some landfill somewhere. Mine may be there soon as well.
There are too may moving parts which break after a period of time and Sleep Number is more than happy to soak you with the cost of repair. They give you a two year warranty – which I am sure the components are tested and designed to last just past the two year period; then the nuisance problems begin. You are responsible for a progressively higher percentage of the repair cost every year you own it. If you purchase a standard mattress, no moving parts. You may need to replace the mattress after 10 years but after looking at the original purchase price and all the repair cost; I think you would come out about even with less headache.
Everybody talks about buying American. After the treatment I have received today, you might as well purchase foreign products. I would expect this kind of treatment from them for less cost. I don’t see how purchasing “quality American products” has paid off.
Hi Tom,
My name is Stephanie and I am a member of Select Comfort’s online Customer Service team. We really appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback about our warranty and apologize for the problems with your pump unit. As you know, the warranty is a 20-year limited warranty and covers manufacturing defects, but the warranty does not offer repairs. As it states in your warranty, “Damage from tampering with any component or from opening the Firmness Control System is not covered under warranty.” We have shared your feedback internally to take into consideration during our ongoing innovation process. Thank you.
We are looking at buying a new mattress, and would love to try sleep # but ned to also get a frame. our bed size would be a queen size. Do you also sell them? So how much would this deal amount to?

and i do read about problems with pumps, are they under a warenty?
Hi! My name is Bob and our friends are giving us their sleep number bed to try out and we can keep if we like it or will most likely buy are own. Their bed is about 9 years old and it is King Size. They have told us that their is black mold on the foam mattress pads. We would very much like to replace these foam pads before we test it out So my questions is how can I go about replacing the foam and how much will it cost? Also i read online that the newer foam pads resist mold and sense their bed is about 9 years old they wouldnt have that protection is that right? We really are interested in purchasing a sleep number in the next few weeks. Thank you for your time.
Hi Bob. This is Sarah from Select Comfort. The warranty on our beds is non-transferrable. So, your friends should give us a call at 800-988-0779 to resolve the issue first. I also forwarded your email to our Customer Service team which should be following up with an email too.
I purchased a sleep number bed 3 years ago. It took a few tries to get the right number for both me and my husband. We didn’t use the remote for 2 years. Then I got pregnant had to use the remote to adjust my side of the bed. After giving birth I tried to change it back and the remote wouldn’t work. When I went to the sleep number store, the salesman said that they see this problem quite often and that the remotes have an inherent problem. He also said that if I called, I could get a replacement. When I called customer service they told me that I had to pay $22 (pro-rated for the 3 years)! That’s crazy. A remote that was used only a handful of times, known to last a short time, and I have to pay to get a new one! So I ask, “if I get a new one and it goes bad will it be replaced at no cost?” NO! the next one will also be pro-rated at the age of the bed not the age of the remote. Next time I’ll buy from Air Beds Unlimited.
Hi. I bought a sleep number bed from a friend of a family member because they moved out of country. The bed is only about 4 or 5 years old and We have had nothing but problems with it. First the frame fell apart on one side of the bed but has been fixed, the pump went out and I have been told it will cost almost $500 to replace it, and now the foam inserts have mold. There has never been anything spilled on the bed and we live in AZ with A/C so it is not the moisture in the air getting through the thick padding.I went online to find some reports about these beds and a lot of people have had the same complaints as I do. Is there anything that I can do to fond relief? I’m on my way to buying a new bed and not a sleep number.
The sleep number bed that my wife and I purchased almost exactly two years ago has stopped working. The control unit does not function despite having power. The companies solution is for me to pay $54 or $84 for replacement pump and controller. I know there is nothing wrong with the pump or pump motor and unless it’s built to fail after two years I’m sure the circuit board hasn’t died.
This is our exact problem. I have found many reports of same thing.. Are there any solutions that do not cost more money?

Purchased a king size Sleep Number 5000 in 2005. Two years later, half the mattress (one bladder) started losing most of its air over a two or three day period, despite pumping it up frequently. Called customer service (and I use that term loosely), got the standard “we’ll be happy to replace that for you for the pro-rated price of $$$.” Politely told them to go to Hell, then proceeded to open the cover on the pump unit. I discovered the tubing connector for the left side bladder had cracked, allowing air to escape. Since it’s an integrated part of the pump housing, I couldn’t simply replace the connector; instead, I purchased a high quality 2-part epoxy (designed for plastic), and patched the cracked connector. Haven’t had a problem since. The problem lies with lifting the head of the mattress while changing sheets. The tubing the manufacturer supplies is too short, so it fatigues and then breaks the connectors inside the pump housing. Instead of laying the pump flat on the floor, I stood it up on end, resting it against the wall. Another solution would be to purchase longer tubing at the local hardware store.
If your mattress is losing air, AND you decide not to fall for their pro-rated warranty money grubbing tactics, then you have nothing to lose by opening up the pump and checking the tubing connectors. Because these beds are glorified air mattresses, they WILL lose air gradually due to temperature changes (the same reason your car tires lose air in a cold climate).
The other problem we have experienced is the LCD display for the wireless remote. the display gradually started going blank within first 2 years of purchasing the mattress. The backlight still works, and the buttons still perform their designated functions, just no LCD display. So, same old story – called customer service: “we’ll be glad to siphon more of your hard-earned money, blah blah blah.” I am working on a fix for the remote. I’m hoping a simple resoldering of the LCD joints will do the trick. Will post a solution, if I find one.
Can a person purchase a new remote, as the LED display is no longer working!
Bought a Sleep Number bed 7000 model in 2004. In the last two years have been having a problem with the foam on my husbands side of the bed collapsing and not maintaining shape. We loved our bed so much we put one on our RV too. But now, we need to replace the foam and have no idea. The folks at the store said we are way past warranty. I am thinking of just replacing with foam from Bed Bath and Beyond. Has anyone done this?
