Curious how a Sleep Number Mattress is made? Well, now you can see for yourself! We were just featured on the Discovery Channel and Science Channel show, Factory Made. Factory Made is a new television series about how things are made and why they’re built the way they are built. The show takes a look at innovative factories to see the magic of mechanized perfection and documents the technical side of how everyday products are made through cool, up-close and colorful videography. You can watch the clip here:
Last Summer of 2009, the show filmed for a full-day (13 hours) in our Salt Lake City plant, to document how a Sleep Number bed is made. The camera crew worked to shoot multiple angles, with different lighting and varied zooms. The lead camera man’s goal was to make the machines look “sexy” – his words, not mine. I saw first-hand the pride and skill that goes into making every part of our mattress. It made me even more proud to work for such a great company with products sewn right here in the U.S.A. On Monday, 9-months after we started working with Factory Made, we saw those 13 hours of footage edited into a succinct, educational and interesting 5-minute spot dedicated solely on our Sleep Number bed.
Three other companies/products are included in the same segment as us, including: American Light Bulb (incandescent bulb); Chinese company (computer mouse); Black Diamond Mfg. (Crampons- ice grips for rock climbing shoes).
