Pain Awareness: What Consumer Reports’ New Mattress Survey Says about Sleep Number Beds

Did you know September was National Pain Awareness Month? More than 15 percent of young adult Americans report issues with chronic pain, and as Americans age, that percentage increases to more than 50 percent. Regardless if you are young or old, chronic pain can rob you of much-needed restorative sleep, further impacting your health. So, if you suffer from chronic pain because of an accident or injury, a health condition such as fibromyalgia, or illness, I invite you to think about the mattress you’re sleeping on at night. Is your mattress helping or hurting you?

Consumer Reports magazine just conducted a survey among 17,444 new mattress owners and asked them to rate their recent purchase. I’m happy to share the Sleep Number bed ranked among the best! According to the survey, problem sleepers said Sleep Number was one of the few beds that provided the most relief. Sleep Number bed owners also were more satisfied than other bed owners and indicated they were highly likely to repurchase a Sleep Number bed.

Since I sleep on a Sleep Number bed every night and work for Select Comfort, I’m not surprised by these results. The Sleep Number bed has greatly helped with my pain. Before I bought a Sleep Number bed last year, I had horrible low-back pain. I visited a chiropractor monthly for years because if I didn’t I would develop excruciating lower back spasms. I was young and in great health, so I shouldn’t have had any problems. But, I did. I concluded my six-year-old mattress needed to go.

So, when I started working at Select Comfort, I excitedly purchased Sleep Number mattress and have never regretted the investment in my health. My low-back pain disappeared within one week and I stopped needing to see a chiropractor for my low-back pain!

Today, I’ve developed some new aches and pains resulting from an extreme workout program my husband and I are doing together. After a really tough workout, our muscles are exhausted and sore, so we both lower the Sleep Numbers on our sides of the bed and snooze in comfort. A couple days later, we always seem to go back up to our normal Sleep Numbers. That’s the beauty of the Sleep Number bed! Whether your pain is minor or chronic, you have the control to adjust the mattress to exactly how you need it to be on any given day.

I want sleep in a number bed before buying; are there any hotel or motel chains that use sleep number beds?
