Herbert Van Den Houten sleeps on a Sleep Number® bed, and, he’s been doing so for almost 20 years. In fact, you could say, Sleep Number is a “family affair” in the Van Den Houten family. Let’s hear his story.
What model Sleep Number bed do you have (e.g., p5, i8, c2)?
When did you buy your current Sleep Number bed?
I bought this bed in 2009.
What’s your Sleep Number setting? Does it fluctuate? Why?
No. I leave mine set at 35, which I verify every couple of weeks.
Do you recommend the Sleep Number bed? What do your friends and family say?
1) I bought one for my son around 1996 or 1997. He just replaced his in 2009 after he saw what I had bought. He enjoys his sleep on it also.
2) I bought one for my mother in December 2000, which she used until she passed on in 2010. She enjoyed it a lot and slept the whole night through, something she never did on the other mattress which was hard as concrete.
How has your Sleep Number bed improved your life?
Previous to 1994 I had a pillow-top firm mattress. I would get up some mornings with such pain I would take an extreme HOT shower and kept making it hotter until I almost would burn myself to relieve the pain. My mother thought I was crazy buying a Sleep Number mattress without trying it first. I told her that they would take it back if I did not like it. My first night totally changed my life as I got up with no pain—and I felt relaxed, too.
Why, after all these years, are you still sleeping on a Sleep Number bed?
After sleeping 15 years with no more pain when I get up in the morning I was not about to change brands. I just wanted to upgrade to a better and bigger mattress.
