My name is Bill McLaughlin and I’m the President and CEO of Select Comfort, the company that brings you the Sleep Number bed. Welcome to The Slumber Party.
Everyone at Select Comfort is committed to improving people’s lives by helping them get the best sleep possible. We also want people to enjoy the benefits of personalized comfort during the time they spend in bed. So, we’re giving you – and everyone else – a place to chat with others about all things related to sleep.
You’ve heard the statistics. We spend one-third of our lives sleeping (or, at least, we should). We’re also using our bedrooms more and more as sanctuaries for relaxing with TV and music, reading and office work, and more. So, our time in bed – especially the time we actually sleep – is extremely important. If you don’t get enough sleep, it can affect everything from your mood and relationships, to weight control and long-term health.
So, beds.com is a place where you can get information from the experts and your neighbors, because any one person’s idea, insight or experience could help you get a better night’s sleep, wake with less pain, and be a better you. And that would make all of us at Select Comfort very, very happy.
Take a look around the site. We’re pulling the latest and greatest information about sleep and compiling it on our main page. We also have information about the Sleep Number bed – but it comes from the mouths of our customers, not from us. Keep your eye on The Slumber Party blog, too, because we’ll have sleep, fitness, relationship and beauty experts blogging about sleep and its impact on your quality of life. We’ll also have posts from some of the people I work with here at our offices in Minneapolis.
I’ll make an appearance on the blog from time to time when we have new information to share. I’ll also read your posts and your conversations, because what you say about us, our product and sleep in general is very important to me and everyone else at our company.
We appreciate you taking time to visit beds.com. Stay as long as you like and come back often. And at the end of the day, we hope we’ve improved your life by improving your sleep.
Sleep Well,
Bill McLaughlin

We have had a sleep number bed for almost two years now. There is NO sleep phenomenon going on in our house. We have both tried various numbers and gave each number at least a week for our bodies to become adjusted to it. We both STILL wake up many times during the night because of pain or we are just uncomfortable. We made a HUGE mistake buying this system and unfortunately have to live with it because of the price we paid for it.
Thank goodness I bought a two chamber bed because one chamber will not maintain air. I replaced the chamber and followed your directions but I still only have half of a bed to sleep on. Since you have nobody to service the problems, it is hard to resolve any issues. Phone calls and emails are no substitute for follow up service. I bought the best bed you offered and would not recommend it to anybody.
I have written this complaint in the past. You have ignored it. Our Sleep Number bed is over ten years old. We sleep okay. The PILLOW TOP is the problem. It has become sunken on each side. There is no way to fix it. Why do you manufacture such an item when in a few years it will look like an old run-down, worn out bed even when there is a puffy comfort cover on it? The mattress pad (bought from you) will not stay in place, sheets wrinkle beneath us. The surface of the mattress is a disaster. I almost feel like the Princess in the fabled story of the princess and the pea. These wads of fabric are uncomfortable and the saggy portions of the bed are unsightly. I am not proud to tell people, “Oh, yes! We have a Sleep Number Bed!” They look at it and think, “Oh, yeah – right!” THE SUPER EXPENSIVE BED SAGS IN TWO PLACES!!!
Thanks for linking to my blog.
It’s interesting you have launched your site, and I will have to watch it to see how it develops. What I’ve seen in your post, as well as the other two posts on the blog, so far, it has potential. I do hope, however, that you use the blog for more than a marketing tool, rather, using it to talk about specific issues.
Sure, there’s always room in a corporate blog, just as a corporate site, to link and marketing in a post, but some very successful corporate blogs I watch and follow do a great deal of actual educational work on the blog, linking to the company’s site and products, as appropriate.
Cheers.
We bought our gueen select comfort after sleeping on my in-laws bed which was one of your first models. We bought it about two years after testing our relatives bed. I have called the company and the store and got an answer which almost bordered on rude. The problem is that the mattress itself slides to the side and it seems that it is a little off being an exact fit to its bottom. I was told to go buy a skid proof rug insert to put between the matress and the bottom to stop the sliding. After paying almost a couple of thousand dollars, why should I have to do that? My God man, wake up! If you want your product to continue with a good name…service your customers complaints. An unsatisfied customer can and will cause your irreputable harm. Unless of course you are only interested in making yours and not in producing a truly quality product! My son has one of your select comforts bought after we bought ours and his mattress doesn’t slide around when he get in it or gets up(a full size model). I wouldn’t recommend this system to anyone because of the the result of a service complaint that was brushed off and an ongoing unresolved problem!

My sister bought me a Sleep Number bed 5 years ago because I jahd a back injury. I took a nap and was healed. Swear. But 5 years later. the frame broke on both sides and I taped it.I believe now it has always been the wrong size.Th motor broke. AS you know , they will not replace it and I cannot afford 250.00 for one. I went to Walmart and blew it up for 15.00 and plugged the chmabers with play -doh and duct tape. I cannot afford any bed. SO here I am with this mess. I guess when they say the bed is guaranteed for 20 years, that is everything except the stuff that always breaks. I think it is terrible and no longer would recommend it at all. After all a spring just wears out, it does not instantly become useless.

I’m a 55!
My mother is living with me and she is 78 years old. She got her sleep number bed delivered Saturday Feb. 7, 2009 and the guys set it up for her and went over the instructions with me and her. In the middle of the nite it was completely deflated. Called the store manager on Sunday because customer service isn’t open on Sunday and the store can’t do anything. They handle no parts. The manager did tell me that to air up the air chamber up and pull the hose out and put the plug in it to see if the mattress was leaking. So, we did it around 11:30am and by 3:00pm it was flat again. So, now my mother has to sleep on the couch. Monday I got hold of customer service and they told me that it was going to take a week to a week in a half for them to send my mother another air chamber… This is not acceptable.
Cindy
Cindy,
I apologize you mother experienced problems with her chamber. It definitely sounds like there was a defect in that particular chamber which is not something that should have happened.
Without knowing your full name, I’m not able to look into order to confirm everything was resolved to your satisfaction. If you have any other questions, I urge you to speak with our sleep professionals at 888-411-2270.
Your satisfaction is important to us at Select Comfort, so please let us know if there’s anything else we can help
you with.

After ordering a p5 bed in one of there stores, they told me it would be delivered in approx 2 weeks, on the eighth day, they called saying they could deliver the bed on a Saturday, but only of I stayed there all day, I told them I had to leave at 4PM, and not to come if it’s going to be after 4PM. My security cameras recorded them coming at 5:30 and they left a message on my answering machine stating that they waited for over 20 minutes. When I called there delivery service they told me they were there…
This was not going to work, so after talking to customer service again, they told me they could ship the bed to me directly and it would be there in 7 to 10 days, great! Do this, and refund me the home delivery charge, they said no problem. 6 days later a package was delivered, the only problem was it was only the feet for the bed, they forgot to send me the bed, and after checking with the bank they did not credit my home delivery charge. SO now we go round three, and wait anther week! …
