Family Approach for the Team at Westfield Southlake Store

For Darryl Simpson, manager of the Westfield Southlake Select Comfort store, going to work each day is a lot like spending time with his family. Why? Because when you have a team that’s been together for five-plus years, you start anticipating each other’s actions. You start completing each other’s sentences. You start to act and feel like brothers and sisters.

And, it’s that family approach that has resonated so soundly with customers in the Merrillville, Ind. area.

Watching a customer’s face when they find the right bed for them, having a customer come back and just say thanks, or hearing the sound of satisfaction in a customer’s voice after buying a Sleep Number bed. Those are the things that motivate and inspire Darryl and his team day after day.

According to Darryl, most customers at the Westfield store come back because of the people—the family that’s been created. And, that’s a big deal since it encourages longer-lasting relationships. In the end, Darryl’s team is more interested in getting customers the bed they need—not necessarily the most expensive one.

For example, a 94-year-old woman walked in the Westfield store a few weeks ago looking for a new bed. She had been sleeping on a coil-spring bed her entire life. After a few moments relaxing on the Sleep Number bed, she was hooked. She walked out a half-hour later with a king-sized Sleep Number bed—just for her!

Stories like that are not uncommon at the Westfield store. Not when you have two team members (Nancy Prott and Renee Patton) with more than seven years experience with the Sleep Number beds and bedding collection.

What’s more, the team is active in supporting the people of Merrillville. With a presence at events like the March of Dimes Walk, the Westfield team is making a difference in the community—in more ways than just making sure people get a better night’s sleep.

You can find Darryl, Nancy and Renee at the Westfield store, next to the Southlake Mall and Target store. One of the larger Select Comfort stores across the country, the Westfield store features 10 beds that customers can test and, as you can see, a tight-knit family to turn to for advice.

If you live in the area or have any questions, stop by to speak with Darryl, Nancy or Renee!

Way to go Darryl on a nice job with “Family Approach for the Team at Westfield Southlake Store”.

I am speaking as a peer. After spending several Manager meetings with Darryl it is easy to see why he is so successful. He obviously cares about people. He manages one of our top stores. He is upbeat and professional and when he has something to say it is always worth hearing.

I could not agree more about the value of family and team because we work so closely together in our stores. The keys are mutual respect and support in a competetive environment. That is what makes it fun and challenging.

We are all here to help improve people’s lives. When it comes to our customers we do that by informing them about our beds so that they can make the best possible decision. When we do a good job we can then earn and are rewarded with their business. That is what makes it all worthwhile.

My husband and I just bought a cal king Kingsdown mattress 2 weeks ago. At first it seemed fine, a little fiem but, ok. After about a week my husband was waking up in the middle of the night with numbness on the side he was sleeping on. He also had back pain. I have a call into Ethan Allen where we bought it. They said that they will have the manufacturer call us, which should take a couple of weeks. Meantime they said turn the mattress over. Well this mattress cannot be turned over. It does not have a flip option. It is a hard backing. Little do they know about there mattresses. We will see how it goes. I will praying!
